The school has an active PTA that is always happy to welcome new members. The fund raising aspect of the PTA is the most readily recognised - the major events that bring in funds for the school are the Summer and Christmas fairs, with an Auction of Promises being arranged every two years. All parents are asked to participate - manning stalls providing donations of produce to sell etc. These events become family days out and are enjoyable for all concerned as well as raising money.
The PTA is also involved in organising sponsored events i.e. sponsored spell, sponsored read and sponsored bounce. The money raised is often used to purchase specific items e.g. computer equipment. At other times the money raised is used to improve the whole school environment. The repainting of the inside of the school and the landscaping outside have been examples of this. The school is well aware of the need to take care of the environment and has taken up offers of trees to plant in the school grounds.
Another specific way of raising money for the school, that has involved all the pupils, has been the production of "Ysgol Y Faenol" Tea Towel. Each child in the school was asked to produce a self-portrait. These were then positioned in classes and sent to the printers who transferred these works of art into the Tea Towels.
Although fundraising is an important part of the PTA life it is not the only part. Social events are also arranged e.g. Quiz Night, Barn Dance, Treasure Hunt. These events enable staff, parents and sometimes children to meet socially, thus providing an opportunity to get to know each other and in turn establish good relations, which can only benefit the education of our children.
